Rare Oriental Storks Nest Again in Jiangsus Ecological Haven

Rare Oriental Storks Return to Nest in Jiangsu’s Ecological Haven

In Sihong County of Suqian, located in east China’s Jiangsu Province, a remarkable harmony between humans and nature is unfolding. A family of rare Oriental storks, a first-class nationally protected species, has been spotted nesting atop a high-voltage transmission pole. In a heartwarming display, the adult storks are diligently caring for their three growing chicks.

Since 2022, these magnificent birds have chosen Sihong County as their nesting ground for four consecutive years, successfully raising a total of 21 offspring. This consistent return signifies the success of sustained ecological protection efforts in the region.

Local initiatives such as wetland restoration and pollution control have significantly enhanced biodiversity in recent years. The area has transformed from a mere migratory stopover to a year-round habitat for an increasing number of rare bird species. The sight of the Oriental storks settling permanently highlights the positive impact of these environmental conservation measures.
