This summer, Beijing’s iconic Temple of Heaven has been teeming with foreign visitors, highlighting a significant surge in international tourism to the Chinese mainland. The expansion of China’s visa-free policy has opened doors to travelers worldwide, fueling an influx of tourists eager to explore the nation’s rich culture and history.
According to data released by the National Immigration Administration on July 16, a total of 13.64 million foreigners entered China visa-free in the first half of 2025. This figure accounts for 71.2% of all foreign entries, marking a remarkable 53.9% increase compared to the previous year.
Currently, China offers unilateral visa-free entry to citizens of 47 countries and transit visa exemptions to 55 countries. Travelers from nations including Indonesia, Russia, and the United Kingdom can enter the Chinese mainland without a visa via 60 designated ports, provided they have valid international travel documents and onward tickets. Visitors are permitted to stay for up to 10 days for tourism, business, or family visits.
This surge in tourism is not only boosting the economy but also fostering cultural exchanges. More international visitors mean greater opportunities for people-to-people interactions, enhancing mutual understanding and interest in China’s diverse travel experiences.
