As Peru gears up to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting from November 10 to 16, a spotlight shines on the vibrant cultural exchanges between China and Latin America. Both regions boast rich histories and splendid civilizations, paving the way for deeper mutual understanding.
In a special episode of “THE HYPE”, young voices from both sides come together to share their experiences. Beatriz Contrera, a Chilean student at Peking University, spoke about her journey immersing herself in Chinese culture. “Living in Beijing has opened my eyes to the similarities we share despite the distance,” she said.
Aníbal Feres, a documentary director from Chilean press agency Pressenza, highlighted the power of storytelling in bridging gaps. “Documentaries allow us to showcase the human stories that connect us all,” he noted.
Patrick Lin, a former Chinese language teacher at the Confucius Institute in Brazil, reflected on his time teaching in Latin America. “The enthusiasm of Latin American students to learn Chinese is inspiring. It shows a genuine interest in understanding our culture,” he shared.
The dialogue delved into the shared values and differences between the two civilizations. Participants emphasized the importance of youth engagement in fostering cross-cultural understanding. As the APEC Summit approaches, such exchanges underscore the potential for collaboration and mutual respect.
With global challenges requiring collective solutions, the voices of the younger generation are vital. Through open dialogue and cultural exchange, China and Latin America are building a bridge towards a harmonious future.
