President Xi Jinping celebrates Macao’s 25th anniversary at grand banquet

President Xi Jinping has arrived in Macao to join a grand celebration marking the 25th anniversary of the city’s return to China. The welcome banquet symbolizes a significant milestone, highlighting Macao’s growth and closer ties with mainland China over the past 25 years.

At the banquet, President Xi congratulated the people of Macao and praised the region’s achievements under the “One Country, Two Systems” policy. “Macao has shown remarkable progress, demonstrating the success of our shared framework,” he remarked.

The anniversary celebrations are filled with vibrant cultural performances, exhibitions, and events that showcase Macao’s unique blend of Chinese and Portuguese cultures. Locals and tourists are taking part in the festivities, celebrating the city’s rich heritage and looking ahead to its future development.

Macao was a Portuguese colony for over 400 years before it was handed back to China on December 20, 1999, becoming a special administrative region. Since then, it has become famous for its bustling tourism industry and is often referred to as the “Las Vegas of Asia.”

This 25th anniversary is not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity for Macao to focus on sustainable growth and diversify its economy, aligning with China’s broader development goals.
