A magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Xigaze, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to local authorities.
The earthquake emergency response in Xizang has been raised to Level I, the highest level, as announced by the region’s emergency command center. This activation mobilizes maximum resources for disaster relief and rescue operations.
By around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the first batch of over 5,800 relief supplies, including cotton tents, clothing, and quilts, had arrived in the earthquake-affected areas of Dingri. These supplies were urgently allocated by the Office of the National Commission for Disaster Reduction and Relief, the Ministry of Emergency Management, and the National Grain and Reserves Administration.
More than 16,000 additional relief items are expected to arrive in the disaster areas on Wednesday. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to reach affected communities and provide necessary assistance.
Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of emergency services. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
