Thrilling Ice Dragon Boat Race Kicks Off in Jinzhou

The frozen lakes of Jinzhou City have come alive with the sound of beating drums and cheering crowds as the Ice Dragon Boat Race Invitational Tournament kicks off in northeast China’s Liaoning Province.

Nearly 30 teams from across China are braving the cold to compete in this exhilarating event, where traditional dragon boats glide over ice instead of water. Thousands of spectators have flocked to witness the spectacle, turning the icy landscape into a vibrant festival of culture and sport.

“It’s an incredible experience racing on ice,” said Liu Wei, a participant from Beijing. “The speed and the adrenaline rush are unmatched.”

The ice dragon boat race combines ancient traditions with winter sports, offering a unique twist on the classic dragon boat racing that dates back over 2,000 years. In this icy version, the boats are fitted with blades, allowing them to glide smoothly across the frozen surface.

The event not only promotes physical fitness but also celebrates Chinese heritage, attracting young people eager to connect with cultural traditions in a modern way.

“I love how this race brings people together,” said Zhang Li, a local resident. “It’s exciting and shows the spirit of teamwork.”

The tournament promises intense competition and unforgettable moments. As teams battle it out for the championship, the excitement is set to continue throughout the weekend.
