More than a week after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7, resettlement and reconstruction efforts are in full swing. Amid the challenges, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit are bringing warmth and support to the affected villagers in a unique way.
In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, the dedicated firefighters have taken on the role of chefs, preparing lunch for the community. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness the heartfelt efforts firsthand. As the aroma of freshly cooked meals fills the air, smiles return to the faces of villagers who have endured so much.
“We want to do everything we can to help,” said one firefighter as he stirred a large pot over an open flame. “Sharing a meal brings people together and provides comfort during difficult times.”
The communal meals have become a beacon of hope, fostering a sense of unity and resilience among residents. Young people in the village are especially moved by the firefighters’ kindness, finding inspiration in their selfless service.
As resettlement efforts continue, the firefighters’ actions highlight the power of community and compassion. Their support not only meets immediate needs but also strengthens the spirit of the villagers as they work towards rebuilding their lives.
The road to recovery may be long, but with solidarity and mutual aid, the future holds promise for the people of Dingri County.
