Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire and hostage release deal after more than 15 months of conflict in the Gaza Strip. The truce is set to begin on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. local time in Gaza (06:30 GMT).
The agreement outlines a three-phase plan lasting 42 days. In the first phase, Hamas is to release 33 hostages, while Israel will commence a phased withdrawal of its troops from the northern Strip and begin releasing Palestinian prisoners.
An Egyptian security source indicated that the Rafah crossing—the only passage connecting the Gaza Strip with Egypt—is scheduled to reopen on Sunday. Approximately 600 aid trucks are expected to enter Gaza through this crossing, bringing much-needed relief to the region.
