Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Malaysia has marked a significant step in strengthening the partnership between the two nations. The leaders are working towards building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, aiming to enhance cooperation in various sectors.

To delve deeper into the importance of this relationship and its global impact, CGTN’s Li Jingjing hosted a panel discussion with prominent Malaysian experts. Ong Tee Keat, president of the Belt and Road Initiative Caucus for Asia Pacific, emphasized the mutual benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects in Malaysia.

Peter T Chang, former director of the Institute of China Studies at the University of Malaya, highlighted the cultural and educational exchanges that have flourished between the two countries. “The people-to-people connections are just as important as the economic ties,” he noted.

Bunn Nagara, director and senior fellow of the Renaissance Strategic Research Institute, discussed the strategic importance of Malaysia’s relationship with China in the context of regional stability and development. He pointed out that enhanced cooperation could lead to greater prosperity for the entire Southeast Asian region.

The panelists agreed that the deepening ties between China and Malaysia hold great promise for future collaborations, not only benefiting both nations but also contributing to growth and stability in Asia.
