Explosions were heard across Tehran early Friday morning as Israel announced it had carried out a “preemptive strike” against Iran.
The Israeli military claimed the strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and key military commanders.
Residents in Tehran reported loud blasts and flashes of light in the sky, with videos circulating on social media showing plumes of smoke rising from several locations.
In response to the escalation, a spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General issued a statement condemning “any military escalation in the Middle East” and calling for restraint from all parties.
Iranian authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the attacks, but local media reported that emergency services were dispatched to affected areas.
This latest development raises concerns about heightened tensions in the region and the potential for further conflict.
