Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Beijing on Tuesday, calling for enhanced cooperation and synergy in development strategies between the two nations.
During their meeting, President Xi commended Singapore’s remarkable achievements under Lee’s tenure as Prime Minister and praised his long-term support for China-Singapore cooperation. Last year, the two countries established an all-round, high-quality, future-oriented partnership, setting a strategic course for bilateral relations. With the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties approaching next year, President Xi emphasized the importance of strengthening high-level exchanges and deepening cooperation to benefit both peoples and contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
President Xi highlighted the 30th anniversary of the Suzhou Industrial Park, noting it as a shining example of the successful cooperation between China and Singapore. He expressed confidence in China’s continued economic growth and high-quality development, welcoming Singapore’s continued role as a pioneer in cooperation.
He called for effective use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, the advancement of major projects, and seizing opportunities in digital and green development to write a new chapter in China-Singapore relations.
Emphasizing solidarity, cooperation, openness, and inclusiveness, President Xi stated that China is ready to work with Singapore to practice true multilateralism, safeguard global fairness and justice, resist division and confrontation, and build an Asian community with a shared future.
Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong praised the strengthened relations between Singapore and China. He highlighted the success of the Suzhou Industrial Park as a symbol of high-quality cooperation and China’s ongoing reform and opening up. Lee expressed confidence in China’s future prosperity and its contributions to world peace and development. He affirmed Singapore’s commitment to deepening cooperation with China.
Lee also emphasized the need to uphold true multilateralism, unity, and cooperation to jointly address risks and challenges and to better serve the people.
The leaders also exchanged views on China-U.S. relations, regional situations, and other major issues of common concern.
