China’s President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed his nation’s commitment to enhancing traditional medicine for the benefit of people worldwide. In a letter to the 2024 World Conference on Traditional Medicine, which opened in Beijing on Tuesday, Xi emphasized the importance of global collaboration in health.
Under the theme “Diversity, Inheritance, Innovation: Traditional Medicines for All,” the conference brings together leaders and experts to discuss the role of traditional medicine in modern healthcare. Xi called for strengthened medical and health cooperation to tackle global health challenges and promote a global community of health for all.
“China has always valued both modern medicine and traditional Chinese medicine,” Xi stated. “We have forged a unique development path for traditional medicine.” He expressed China’s willingness to work with the international community to foster mutual learning, integrate traditional medicines into the global health system, and promote innovative development of traditional medicine culture.
The conference, held from December 3 to 4, is jointly organized by the World Health Organization and Chinese health authorities. It serves as a platform to improve global access to traditional and complementary medicine and to integrate it into healthcare systems worldwide.
