South Korean Police Call Cabinet Members Spy Chief for Questioning

South Korean Police Summon Cabinet, Spy Chief Over Martial Law Declaration

South Korean police have summoned key government officials, including the Prime Minister and the nation’s spy chief, for questioning over a recent declaration of martial law.

The list of 11 officials called includes Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, former Interior Minister Lee Sang-min, and National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong. These officials are believed to have attended critical cabinet meetings before and after President Yoon Suk-yeol declared martial law on December 3.

The National Office of Investigation, which is leading the probe, stated they may consider legal measures to compel the officials to appear if they do not cooperate voluntarily.

This unprecedented move comes amid heightened political tensions in South Korea, raising questions about the circumstances that led to the martial law declaration and the government’s response.
