Egyptian Fm Blinken Discuss Recent Developments in Syria

Egypt and U.S. Call for Inclusive Political Solution in Syria

Cairo, Egypt — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday night to discuss recent developments in Syria, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

The two diplomats emphasized the importance of initiating a comprehensive political process that includes all Syrian national components and parties. They agreed that an inclusive approach is essential to pave the way for restoring stability and peace in Syria.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He expressed concern over Israel’s control of the demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan Heights and neighboring areas, labeling it an occupation of Syrian territory and a blatant violation of international law.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister called upon the international community to uphold its responsibilities and take action to prevent any further aggression against Syria.

Meanwhile, Blinken highlighted the “historic opportunity” for the Syrian people to build a better future. He reiterated the need for all actors in Syria to respect human rights, protect religious and ethnic minorities, and adhere to international humanitarian law, as stated by the U.S. State Department.
