Border agents are seizing more illegal items and turning away a higher number of inadmissible travelers at the U.S.-Canada border than in previous years, recent reports indicate.
Local media reported on Tuesday that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has witnessed a significant uptick in the confiscation of dangerous drugs, firearms, and stolen vehicles during the first ten months of this year compared to the same period last year, according to CTV News.
Agents intercepted 2,070 stolen vehicles before they could be shipped abroad, nearly 500 more than the previous year. This surge points to a growing trend in vehicle thefts aimed at international markets.
The number of people deemed inadmissible and turned away at the border has also risen sharply. Nearly 34,000 individuals were denied entry, marking a 30% increase from the 25,500 identified during the same period last year.
Between New Year’s Day and Halloween this year, the CBSA removed over 14,000 foreign nationals from Canada due to violations of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, as reported by CTV News. These figures underscore the agency’s ongoing efforts to maintain border security and enforce immigration laws.
The escalating numbers highlight the challenges faced by border officials in curbing illegal activities and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
