Prosecutors Say Yoon Defied Summon Order in Martial Law Probe

Impeached President Yoon defies prosecutor’s summons

South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol has defied a prosecutor’s summons in an ongoing investigation into his controversial imposition of martial law.

Prosecutors announced that Yoon did not appear for questioning at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on Sunday as scheduled. The summons was delivered to his office on December 11, requesting his presence at 10 a.m., but Yoon failed to show up.

“We have confirmed the delivery of the summons to President Yoon’s office,” a prosecution official stated, adding that they plan to send a second summons on Monday.

Yoon was impeached by the National Assembly on Saturday after his short-lived declaration of an emergency martial law earlier this month. He has been suspended from his presidential duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

The former president is accused of abusing his power by declaring martial law for unconstitutional purposes and ordering military commanders to deploy troops to parliament and arrest key political figures.

Prosecutors are also seeking arrest warrants for senior military officials, including the head of the Army Special Warfare Command and the chief of the capital defense command. Investigations continue as prosecutors and police question military commanders linked to the martial law decree.
