China has expressed strong opposition to a recent report released by the U.S. Department of Defense concerning China’s military and security developments.
On Saturday, Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, stated that the report distorts China’s national defense policy and interferes in the country’s internal affairs.
“The U.S. report speculates on China’s military development and tries to discredit the Chinese military, hyping up the so-called ‘Chinese military threat,'” Zhang said.
He emphasized that China is committed to peaceful development and adheres to a defensive national defense policy. Zhang noted that the United States has engaged in military operations in countries like Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, which have led to humanitarian challenges.
“The U.S. has become the number one disruptor of the international order and a significant concern for global security,” he added.
Regarding nuclear policy, Zhang stated that China maintains a strategy of self-defense and upholds a no-first-use policy on nuclear weapons. He expressed concerns about the cooperation among the U.S., the UK, and Australia on nuclear-powered submarines, suggesting it could impact international peace and stability.
Zhang highlighted the importance of the relationship between the Chinese and U.S. militaries, stating that China values open and effective communication through military diplomatic channels.
“China hopes the U.S. will view China’s development in a positive and rational manner, working towards a relationship based on equality and mutual respect,” he said.
He urged the U.S. to stop spreading false narratives and to promote the healthy and stable development of relations between the two militaries.
