Canada Says everything is on the Table to Trumps Tariff Threat

Canada Prepares to Counter Trump’s Tariff Threats

Canada is gearing up to respond to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on Canadian imports. Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly stated that “everything is on the table” when considering countermeasures.

In an interview aired on Sunday, Joly emphasized the government’s readiness to protect Canada’s interests. When asked if cutting off energy exports to the United States was an option, she affirmed that all possibilities are being considered.

Joly, along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, plans to meet with provincial premiers to discuss Canada’s strategy. She intends to bring their unified stance to key decision-makers in the United States during her upcoming visit to Washington.

“This is not a time for division or weakness,” Joly said. “This is a time of strength and unity.” She emphasized the importance of Canadian political leaders coming together to address potential trade challenges.

Reports indicate that Canada is preparing a list of American goods that could face retaliatory tariffs if Trump proceeds with his plan to impose a 25 percent tariff on all Canadian imports.
