An unidentified individual tragically died after setting themselves on fire near South Korea’s Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on Wednesday, according to local media reports.
The incident occurred in a parking lot close to the CIO headquarters in Gwacheon, just south of Seoul. Emergency services responded promptly, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the self-immolation and are working to identify the individual. The CIO, established in 2021, is tasked with investigating corruption among high-ranking officials in South Korea.
