The Palestinian group Hamas has declared its continued commitment to a ceasefire agreement announced by mediators on Wednesday. Senior Hamas official Izzat el-Reshiq reaffirmed the group’s position on Thursday, emphasizing their willingness to uphold the deal.
This announcement comes in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s accusations that Hamas is backtracking on certain details of the ceasefire arrangement. On Thursday morning, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office released a statement accusing Hamas of reneging on parts of the agreement reached with mediators and Israel, stating that the group is attempting to “extort last-minute concessions.”
Due to these alleged developments, the Israeli cabinet will delay its convening until mediators inform Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The ceasefire agreement, facilitated by mediators whose identities remain undisclosed, aims to de-escalate the ongoing tensions and violence that have affected the region.
