A recent global online poll conducted by CGTN has highlighted widespread concern over the United States government’s approach to addressing illegal immigration. Participants from around the world perceive that immigrants are being used as scapegoats to obscure deeper governance inefficiencies in the U.S.
According to the survey, 86.6% of respondents believe that both major political parties in the U.S. are leveraging the immigration issue to achieve their political goals rather than genuinely addressing the concerns of immigrants. An additional 82.6% expressed worry that continued political confrontation over immigration could further exacerbate social divisions within the country.
The poll also revealed that 86.2% of participants think the U.S. government’s handling of immigration systematically violates human rights. Many respondents called for fairer and more reasonable treatment of immigrants, arguing that aggressive policies and enforcement could intensify the problem and contribute to racial discrimination and societal discord.
Furthermore, 82.9% of those surveyed are skeptical of claims that immigrants adversely impact U.S. society. Instead, they feel that immigrants are being unfairly blamed for issues stemming from wider governance challenges, such as political polarization and economic disparities.
The survey was conducted across CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms, garnering over 6,000 responses within 24 hours. The results reflect a global perspective on the complexities of the U.S. immigration debate and highlight a call for more compassionate and effective policies.
