Belarusian citizens are heading to the polls today as the presidential election begins across the country. Five candidates are vying for the nation’s highest office, including the incumbent, President Alexander Lukashenko.
The candidates on the ballot are:
- Alexander Lukashenko – The sitting President seeking re-election.
- Alexander Khizhnyak – Chairman of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice.
- Oleg Gaidukevich – Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus.
- Anna Kanopatskaya – Entrepreneur and independent candidate.
- Sergei Syrankov – First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus.
Approximately 6.9 million eligible voters will cast their ballots at 5,325 polling stations nationwide. Voter turnout is expected to be significant as citizens decide the future direction of their country.
