CAIRO, Egypt — Egypt has firmly rejected any plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland amid escalating tensions in the Gaza Strip.
On Sunday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released a statement expressing unwavering support for "the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land." The ministry emphasized its opposition to any actions that would undermine the inalienable rights of Palestinians, including settlement expansion, land annexation, or forced displacement.
"We reject any infringement on those rights, whether through settlement, annexation, or the depopulation of Palestinian land through displacement or the uprooting of Palestinians from their land," the statement read.
The concern over potential displacement comes as the conflict between Israel and Hamas intensifies. Egypt and Jordan have voiced fears about plans to move Palestinians from Gaza into neighboring countries, effectively altering the demographic and political landscape of the region.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has repeatedly warned that such displacement would aim to "eradicate the cause for Palestinian statehood." He has described the prospect as a "red line" that threatens Egypt's national security.
"The displacement of Palestinians from Gaza is unacceptable," President Sisi stated. "It would have serious consequences for the stability and security of the entire region."
Egypt has long advocated for a two-state solution as the path to lasting peace. The Foreign Ministry reiterated this stance, urging the immediate implementation of solutions that respect Palestinian territorial rights.
"Achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution is the only way to end the conflict and ensure security for all parties," the ministry affirmed.
The international community watches closely as tensions rise, with many calling for de-escalation and the protection of civilians. The voices against forced displacement add pressure to find a peaceful resolution that honors the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
