The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong Un recently visited a nuclear material production facility and the Nuclear Weapons Institute, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to bolstering its nuclear capabilities, state media reported.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim inspected key processes involved in producing weapons-grade nuclear materials and was briefed on current production levels. While the exact date of the inspection was not disclosed, the report highlighted Kim’s focus on enhancing the country’s defensive posture.
“Guaranteeing peace and security through strength is our chosen path,” Kim stated, as quoted by KCNA. He underscored the importance of expanding the nation’s nuclear deterrent to confront what he described as “grave security situations and challenges posed by hostile forces.”
Kim identified 2025 as a pivotal year for advancing the DPRK’s nuclear policy goals. He stressed the need to achieve significant progress in producing weapons-grade nuclear materials and strengthening the country’s “nuclear shield.”
“It is our firm political and military stand to develop the state’s nuclear counteraction posture indefinitely,” Kim declared, reaffirming the DPRK’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities.
