Migrants Stuck at Border After U.S. Policy Shift
Thousands of migrants hoping to seek asylum in the United States are now stuck in limbo at the Mexican border city of Tijuana. The sudden policy shift by the new Trump administration has put the U.S. asylum process on hold, leaving many uncertain about their future.
Juan, a 24-year-old from Honduras, arrived in Tijuana after a dangerous journey through Central America and Mexico. “I left my country to escape violence and find a better life,” he said. “Now I don’t know what will happen.”
The suspension of the asylum process has overwhelmed local shelters and humanitarian organizations in Tijuana. Many migrants are living in overcrowded conditions with limited access to basic necessities.
Local authorities and volunteers are working tirelessly to provide support, but resources are stretched thin. “We are doing everything we can to help these people,” said Maria Rodriguez, a volunteer at a local shelter. “But the situation is becoming more difficult every day.”
The policy change has also raised concerns among human rights advocates. “The right to seek asylum is a fundamental human right,” said Alejandro Gomez, a lawyer specializing in immigration law. “We urge the U.S. government to resume the asylum process and respect international laws.”
As the uncertainty continues, migrants like Juan can only hope for a resolution. “I still have hope,” he said. “I dream of a safer life and a brighter future.”
