Iran and Iraq Pledge Stronger Ties for Regional Peace
In a significant move toward enhancing stability in West Asia, Iran and Iraq have vowed to strengthen their bilateral cooperation. The commitment was made during a high-level meeting in Tehran between Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and his Iraqi counterpart, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani.
At a joint press conference following their discussions, both leaders emphasized the importance of their countries’ relationship in promoting peace and security in the region.
“We aim to enhance our political and economic relations, which will contribute to peace and stability among neighboring Arab, non-Arab, and Muslim countries,” Qalibaf stated. He highlighted that the ties between the peoples, parliaments, and governments of Iran and Iraq are at an all-time high. As two Muslim nations, he added, they are ready to support the resistance front and uphold the dignity of the Muslim world.
Al-Mashhadani echoed these sentiments, noting that their talks focused on crucial issues like border management, economic collaboration, and security cooperation. “We discussed ways to bolster the region’s security stability,” he said. “Iraq will not abandon its Arab and Islamic principles, and it remains open to all.”
He assured that Iraq would always stand by Iran, expressing hope that their relationship would continue to flourish. “We are committed to being a supportive neighbor,” al-Mashhadani affirmed.
The meeting signals a strengthened alliance between the two countries, which could have significant implications for regional dynamics in West Asia.
