Al Hilal continued their unbeaten run in the AFC Champions League Elite with a commanding 4-1 victory over Persepolis at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday. The Saudi Pro League giants secured their fifth win of the tournament, solidifying their position at the top of Group B.
The home side wasted no time taking control of the match. In the 10th minute, Malcom showcased his skill with a swift move down the right wing, slicing through Persepolis’s defense before deftly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz to open the scoring.
Just 15 minutes later, Al Hilal doubled their lead. After a series of quick passes, Joao Cancelo found himself with enough space to unleash a low-driven shot into the bottom corner, leaving Guendouz with no chance.
The hosts continued their offensive onslaught. In the 38th minute, Malcom turned provider, setting up captain Salem Al-Dawsari. Al-Dawsari expertly navigated past Guendouz and, from a tight angle, slotted home Al Hilal’s third goal.
As the first half drew to a close, Al Hilal struck again during stoppage time. Cancelo delivered a precise cross from the right wing, finding Al-Dawsari at the top of the box. The captain’s first-time powerful strike soared into the top corner, extending the lead to an emphatic 4-0 before the break.
Persepolis managed to find a consolation goal in the 90th minute. Issa Alekasir was brought down in the box by Ali Albulayhi, prompting the referee to award a penalty after consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Giorgi Gvelesiani stepped up and converted the spot-kick, ending the match at 4-1.
With this victory, Al Hilal leads Group B with 16 points from five wins and one draw, showcasing their dominance in the competition.
