Us Humanitarian Aid Stalled Despite Rubios Assurance Sources

Global Aid Efforts Stall Despite U.S. Assurances, Sources Say

Humanitarian aid funded by the United States has largely come to a halt around the world, despite official assurances that life-saving assistance would continue, multiple sources reported on Saturday.

Earlier this week, government officials stated that a waiver had been issued to allow critical humanitarian aid to proceed during a 90-day review of U.S. foreign aid programs. However, several staff and contractors with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have reported that this does not reflect the reality on the ground. Almost all USAID humanitarian aid projects are currently at a standstill, according to these sources.

The pause follows an announcement by the administration to review U.S. foreign aid contributions to ensure they align with national priorities. The sudden cessation of aid has left vital programs in limbo, affecting food security efforts, health initiatives, and other essential services in vulnerable regions.

“About 500,000 metric tons of food worth $340 million is in transit or storage, waiting for approval to be distributed,” said a former senior USAID official. Humanitarian organizations are struggling to manage hunger crises that were already challenging before the aid halt.

The interruption has also impacted cash assistance programs intended to help people buy food and necessities, as well as community kitchens in areas like Sudan and Gaza. Aid workers report that they are facing roadblocks in getting paid for emergency food operations, with queries going unanswered as officials are placed on administrative leave.

The Famine Early Warning Systems Network, which provides regular food security alerts to prevent famine, has been shut down, leaving organizations without critical guidance on where and how to deploy relief efforts.

United Nations agencies have expressed concern over the situation, offering a dire assessment of the global impact of deep cuts to grassroots humanitarian funding. They have reiterated calls for the United States to retain its position as a global leader in aid.

As the review continues, aid organizations and communities around the world are anxiously awaiting the resumption of vital programs that save lives and support livelihoods.
