Khartoum, Sudan — The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced on Monday significant advances against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), reclaiming key territories across several fronts in the ongoing conflict.
In Bahri city, north of the capital Khartoum, the SAF reported full control over the Kafouri area, previously the last RSF stronghold in the city. “Our special forces at Al-Markhiat Military Base are advancing steadily in the Kafouri neighborhood after intense operations, clearing the area of the militia forces,” the SAF stated.
The capture of Kafouri marks a pivotal moment in the army’s campaign across Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri. The area had served as a strategic base for the RSF, facilitating artillery attacks on army-held locations in Omdurman.
Meanwhile, the SAF declared control over Al-Rahad city in North Kordofan State after days of fierce battles. “The armed forces continue their victories, advancing along the Al-Rahad axis in North Kordofan and decisively crushing the militia,” the SAF added.
Al-Rahad, located approximately 30 kilometers west of El Obeid—the capital of North Kordofan State—holds strategic importance due to its position at the crossroads of major routes and as a vital station on Sudan’s railway line connecting the west to the eastern and central regions.
Since January, the RSF has been withdrawing from several areas in central Sudan, losing control of strategic territories in Gezira and Sinnar states. The RSF has also lost key positions in Khartoum, including the Khartoum Oil Refinery in the Al-Jaili area, north of Bahri.
Sudan has been gripped by a devastating conflict between the SAF and the RSF since mid-April 2023, which has claimed more than 29,680 lives, according to the latest estimates by international organizations.
