The beginning of Donald Trump’s second term has sparked fear and uncertainty among millions of undocumented migrants in the United States and countless asylum seekers in Mexico. Tougher migration policies are reportedly leading to a decline in attempted border crossings.

Many migrants who once saw the U.S. as a beacon of hope are now reconsidering their journey. Carlos, an asylum seeker from Honduras, shared his concerns: “With the new policies, it’s becoming nearly impossible for us to find safety in the U.S. We’re stuck in limbo.”

Organizations working along the border have noticed a significant decrease in the number of people attempting to cross. Maria Lopez, a volunteer with a migrant aid group, said, “We’ve seen fewer families arriving. The stricter measures are discouraging many from making the dangerous journey.”

The U.S. government asserts that the policies are designed to secure the border and ensure that migration is lawful and orderly. However, critics argue that these measures are leaving vulnerable people without options.

As the situation continues to evolve, migrants and asylum seekers are left facing difficult choices about their futures.
