Several people were injured when an explosion rocked a seminary in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, local media reported.
The blast occurred shortly after the conclusion of Friday prayers, a time when mosques and religious schools are often filled with worshippers. The seminary, located in a densely populated area, was reportedly hosting a larger congregation than usual.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, transporting the wounded to nearby hospitals. The exact number of casualties has yet to be confirmed by authorities.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed a surge in militant activity in recent months. The region has been the focus of numerous security operations aimed at rooting out extremist groups.
Local residents expressed shock and concern over the incident. “We are deeply saddened by this attack on a place of worship,” said one community member. “We hope that peace will return to our region.”
The government has condemned the attack and vowed to bring those responsible to justice. Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
