U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House on Friday, where the two leaders signed a minerals deal aimed at strengthening economic ties between the United States and Ukraine.
The agreement focuses on cooperation in the energy and mining sectors, particularly in the development and processing of critical minerals. President Trump described the deal as “very fair,” emphasizing its potential to benefit both nations.
“This is a fantastic agreement that will enhance our strategic partnership and bring jobs and growth to both countries,” Trump said during a joint press conference.
President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the continued support from the United States, highlighting the importance of the deal for Ukraine’s economic development.
“We’re committed to deepening our cooperation with the U.S. in various sectors, and this minerals agreement is a significant step forward,” Zelenskyy said.
The meeting also covered discussions on regional security and ongoing reforms in Ukraine.
The minerals agreement is expected to pave the way for U.S. companies to invest in Ukraine’s mining industry, which is rich in resources like lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements essential for high-tech manufacturing.
