Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg will now focus exclusively on Ukraine in his role as special envoy.
“General Kellogg, a highly respected military expert, will deal directly with President Zelenskyy and Ukrainian leadership,” Trump shared on his social media platform, Truth Social. “He knows them well, and they have a very good working relationship together.”
Previously appointed as special envoy for both Ukraine and Russia in late November, Kellogg’s role has now been narrowed to concentrate solely on Ukraine.
Despite his appointment, Kellogg has not participated in recent peace talks held in Saudi Arabia, neither with the Russian delegation in Riyadh nor with the Ukrainian delegation in Jeddah earlier this month.
At 80 years old, Kellogg brings extensive experience to the position. He formerly served as national security advisor to then Vice President Mike Pence and as executive secretary and chief of staff of the National Security Council during Trump’s first term.
