Windhoek, Namibia—China’s special envoy, Peng Qinghua, attended the inauguration of Namibia’s new President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, on Friday. The event marked not only the swearing-in of the country’s first female president but also coincided with the 35th anniversary of Namibia’s independence.
Peng Qinghua, the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping. During a meeting with President Nandi-Ndaitwah, Peng emphasized the longstanding friendship between China and Namibia, highlighting that this year also marks 35 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
“China is eager to deepen our cooperation with Namibia,” Peng stated. “We aim to enhance high-level exchanges, strengthen political trust, and expand practical collaboration to benefit the peoples of both countries.”
President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed her gratitude to President Xi for sending a special envoy to her inauguration. She praised the strong relationship between Namibia and China, thanking China for its continued support and assistance. “We look forward to furthering our friendly cooperation across various fields,” she said.
The inauguration was attended by dignitaries and representatives from nearly 30 countries, as well as international and regional organizations, underscoring Namibia’s growing significance on the global stage.
