Israel Claims Elimination of Hamas Intelligence Chief in Gaza Airstrike
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency announced on Friday that a targeted airstrike in southern Gaza has eliminated Osama Tabash, identified as the head of Hamas’ military intelligence for the southern region. The joint statement indicated that Tabash was also responsible for Hamas’ surveillance and targeting units.
There has been no immediate response from Hamas regarding these claims.
Renewed Hostilities in Gaza
Israel resumed airstrikes in Gaza on Tuesday after a ceasefire with Hamas, which began on January 19, unraveled. Following the breakdown of the truce, Israeli troops launched ground operations across southern, northern, and central Gaza.
Since the resumption of military actions, Israel has reported the killing of several senior Hamas officials. Notably, Issam al-Daalis, a member of Hamas’ political bureau and head of the Government Follow-up Committee in Gaza, was also killed in recent strikes.
Rising Casualties
According to the Civil Defense in Gaza, at least 11 people were killed in Friday’s airstrikes. Overall, the renewed Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of potentially over 600 individuals, with more than 1,000 wounded.
Humanitarian concerns are escalating as the death toll rises and the conflict shows no signs of abating.
