At least one person was killed and 15 others wounded in a U.S. airstrike targeting a residential building in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Sunday night, according to Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.
Among the injured were three children and two women, the television station reported, citing officials from the Houthi-controlled health authorities. The strike hit a neighborhood in Asr, a western suburb of Sanaa, leaving residents shaken.
“It was a very violent explosion,” said a local resident, noting that rescue teams were still searching for survivors beneath the rubble.
The U.S. military has not yet commented on the incident.
Earlier, the Houthi group claimed to have launched attacks on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea and Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel. The Israeli army reported intercepting the attack on the airport.
In response, U.S. forces reportedly conducted fresh airstrikes on Houthi-held territories, including areas around the central city of Saada, a stronghold of the Houthis. Airstrikes also targeted the airport in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah. There were no immediate reports of casualties from these strikes.
These exchanges come amid an ongoing air campaign launched by U.S. forces in mid-March against Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen. The Houthis, who have controlled much of northern Yemen since the civil war began in 2014, have vowed to continue striking Israeli targets in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and to respond to what they describe as “American aggression.”
Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since 2014 when the Houthi movement seized Sanaa, leading to a war that has resulted in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
