Russia and U.S. Fail to Adopt Joint Statement After Saudi Talks

Russia and the United States failed to adopt a joint statement after 12 hours of talks held in Saudi Arabia on Monday, according to the Interfax news agency. The discussions, which were expected to ease tensions, ended without a consensus due to Ukraine’s stance, a senior Russian senator reported.

Vladimir Chizhov, the senator, told the state television channel Rossiya-24, “The fact that they sat for 12 hours and apparently agreed on a joint statement, which was not adopted though because of Ukraine’s position, is very typical and symptomatic.

The talks took place against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts and diplomatic disagreements involving Russia, the U.S., and Ukraine. The inability to release a joint statement underscores the complexities and challenges in reaching mutual understanding on critical international issues.

Saudi Arabia hosted the discussions, emphasizing its role in facilitating dialogue between global powers. However, the stalemate indicates that finding common ground remains difficult amid differing national interests and regional dynamics.
