At least two people were injured following a series of U.S. airstrikes in Yemen’s northern Saada Province on Monday night, according to reports from Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.
The television station reported that nine airstrikes were conducted by the U.S., with eight targeting areas around the city of Saada, the provincial capital, and the ninth strike hitting the Kitaf area.
The attacks mark an escalation in the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where the Houthi movement and the internationally recognized government have been locked in a brutal war since 2014. The conflict has drawn in regional and international powers, with the United States providing support to the coalition backing the government.
Local residents expressed fear and concern over the renewed airstrikes, which have further strained the already dire humanitarian situation in the region. “We are living in constant fear,” said a resident of Saada city. “The airstrikes have destroyed our homes and endangered our lives.”
The United Nations has repeatedly called for a cessation of hostilities in Yemen, urging all parties to engage in peace talks to end the conflict that has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
