Russia Accuses Ukraine of Trying to Attack Its Energy Facilities

Russia Accuses Ukraine of Attacking Energy Facilities Despite Moratorium

Russia’s Defense Ministry has accused Ukraine of attempting to attack civilian energy infrastructure in three regions, despite what it says was a U.S.-brokered agreement to suspend such actions.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry alleged that Ukraine tried to strike a gas storage facility in Crimea, as well as energy infrastructure in the Kursk and Bryansk regions. These areas hold strategic importance, supplying power to vast areas of Russia.

“The Ukrainian regime attempted to carry out terrorist attacks on civilian energy facilities in the Russian Federation using unmanned aerial vehicles,” the statement read. “Thanks to the prompt actions of our air defense systems, all the drones were intercepted and destroyed.”

The Defense Ministry claimed these actions violate an alleged moratorium on targeting civilian infrastructure, which it says was brokered by the United States. There was no immediate response from Ukraine regarding these accusations.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have intensified recently, with both sides accusing each other of escalating aggression and breaching agreements. The purported attacks come amid ongoing conflict and diplomatic strains in the region.

International observers have expressed concern over the potential for increased hostilities, urging both nations to adhere to agreements and engage in dialogue.

Ukraine has previously denied targeting civilian infrastructure, insisting that its military operations focus solely on defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As the situation unfolds, the global community watches closely, hoping for a de-escalation of tensions and a peaceful resolution.
