China’s men’s and women’s teams have both secured spots in the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3×3 Basketball Asia Cup in Singapore after impressive performances in their pool matches on Friday.
The men’s team, featuring Guo Hanyu, Yan Peng, Zhang Dianliang, and Xiang Zhichao—all players from China’s 3×3 Super League—dominated Pool B alongside the Chinese Taipei team and India.
China breezed past the Chinese Taipei team with a convincing 21-10 victory in their first game. However, the second game against India proved more challenging. With the score tied at 17-17 in the final minute, Guo Hanyu clinched the win for China with a decisive two-point jumper.
Looking ahead, the Chinese men’s team will face Qatar, the No. 2 seeds from Pool D, in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
On the women’s side, China was grouped with last year’s runners-up, New Zealand, and South Korea. Despite a young roster averaging under 23 years of age—comprising Hu Duoling, Li Wenxia, Li Yuyan, and Zhou Mengyun—the team narrowly lost to New Zealand by one point, 18-17, in a tightly contested match.
In their second game, the Chinese women showcased their strength against South Korea, leveraging their size advantage and solid defense to secure a 19-12 victory. They will compete against Vietnam in the quarterfinals.
