China has pledged emergency humanitarian assistance to Myanmar following a devastating magnitude-7.9 earthquake that struck the country. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Friday that China is ready to support the affected areas, responding to the urgent need for disaster relief and rescue efforts.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and extend our sincere sympathies to Myanmar,” the spokesperson said, emphasizing the profound friendship between the two nations. “We hope and believe that the government and people of Myanmar will overcome difficulties and rebuild their home at an early date.”
In the aftermath of the earthquake, the Chinese Embassy and Consulate-General in Myanmar swiftly activated emergency response mechanisms. They issued consular notices and worked diligently to assess whether any Chinese institutions, companies, or nationals have been affected. So far, no casualties among Chinese nationals have been reported.
The spokesperson highlighted the strong ‘pauk-phaw’ (fraternal) bond shared by the people of China and Myanmar. “We feel for the people of Myanmar over the disaster,” they concluded.
