Chinese Rescue Team Joins Myanmar Earthquake Relief Efforts

In the aftermath of a devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, a 37-member Chinese medical rescue team from Yunnan Province has departed for the affected region. Leaving from Kunming Changshui International Airport, the team is set to assist in search and recovery operations.

Equipped with advanced emergency supplies—including full-function life detectors, earthquake early warning systems, portable satellites, and drones—the team aims to bolster efforts to locate survivors and provide critical medical aid.

Government officials report that the earthquake has claimed at least 144 lives and injured over 732 people. The tremors were felt beyond Myanmar, with at least 10 fatalities in nearby Bangkok, Thailand, where a high-rise building under construction collapsed.

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson expressed sincere condolences to Myanmar, emphasizing the solidarity between the neighboring countries. The Chinese embassy and consulate in Myanmar have activated emergency mechanisms, issuing consular reminders and verifying the safety of Chinese institutions, enterprises, and personnel in the region. No casualties among Chinese citizens have been reported so far.
