Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has voiced concerns over the United States’ approach to resolving the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Speaking on Tuesday to the International Affairs magazine, Ryabkov stated that Washington has yet to address the root causes of the conflict.
“We have not heard any signal from U.S. President Donald Trump to Kyiv about ending the war,” Ryabkov said. He added that the American strategy appears to focus solely on establishing a ceasefire without tackling the underlying issues. “The only approach being pursued is an attempt to establish a framework that would first achieve a ceasefire, as conceived by the Americans,” he noted.
Ryabkov emphasized that while Moscow takes the U.S.’ proposed models and solutions seriously, it cannot accept them outright. “Russia has a deeply and carefully thought-out set of our own priorities and approaches to this topic,” he explained.
Last week, technical-level negotiations were held over three days in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and Russia discussed the details of a potential ceasefire. Despite these talks, fighting on the battlefields remains intense. Analysts point to deep-seated distrust, conflicting demands among stakeholders, and the inherent complexities of the process as significant hurdles to peace.
