China’s Diving Team Makes a Splash with Gold in Mexico

China’s elite divers showcased their dominance at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, by clinching the gold medal in the mixed team event on Friday. The team, composed of Chen Yuxi, Chen Yiwen, Wang Zongyuan, and Cheng Zilong, secured the top spot with an impressive total of 489.10 points.

Italy followed in second place with 416.45 points, while Germany took third with 396.20 points.

“The mixed team event has always been a relatively relaxing one for us. We were in a good mindset and really enjoyed the competition,” remarked Chen Yiwen after the event.

Chen Yuxi expressed her satisfaction with her performance, especially after overcoming challenges from the previous day. “I’m quite satisfied with today’s performance. I performed the same dives that I struggled with yesterday, and I’m glad they turned out well this time,” she shared.

Wang Zongyuan admitted he wasn’t at his peak but praised his teammates for their support. “I wasn’t fully mentally prepared,” he said. “Thankfully, my teammates stepped up and made up for the points. I fully trust them.”

Making his world-level debut, Cheng Zilong felt both excitement and nerves. “I tried my best to stay calm and believed in myself,” he noted.

Earlier in the competition, Chen Yiwen and Chen Jia advanced to the women’s 3-meter springboard final as the top two qualifiers. On the men’s side, Cheng Zilong and Zhu Zifeng secured spots in the men’s 10-meter platform final by placing second and third, respectively, in the preliminaries.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming showdown between Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan in the women’s 10-meter platform final on Saturday. The day’s events will also feature finals in the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard, men’s synchronized 10-meter platform, and men’s 3-meter springboard.
