Russian President Vladimir Putin met with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg on Friday to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The Kremlin reported that the meeting focused on various aspects of resolving the Ukraine crisis, though specific details were not disclosed.
The talks were held behind closed doors, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who noted that while the exchange of views on the Ukraine issue was significant, no major breakthroughs were expected.
Prior to meeting with Putin, Witkoff held discussions with Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Russia’s special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries. Dmitriev described the talks as “productive.”
Russian news agency TASS reported that Witkoff arrived in Russia on a business visit Friday morning and departed St. Petersburg later that evening.
