Chen Jia Shines as China Dominates Diving World Cup in Canada
China’s rising star Chen Jia clinched gold in the women’s 3-meter springboard final at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup in Windsor, Canada. The 20-year-old diver faced a thrilling challenge against teammate Chen Yiwen, showcasing exceptional skill and consistency across all five rounds.
Entering the competition as a wild card after her victory at the previous World Cup stop in Guadalajara, Mexico, Chen Jia delivered an impressive performance with a total score of 379.05 points. This score surpassed Chen Yiwen’s winning total from last year’s Paris Summer Olympics.
“My score is a bit lower than at the Mexico leg, and I feel tired after these two consecutive stops,” Chen Jia remarked. “It’s normal to score lower under these circumstances. I need to perfect the details and improve my gestures.”
Chen Yiwen secured the silver with 369.90 points, while Australia’s Maddison Keeney took bronze with 336.55 points.
In the men’s 10-meter platform final, China’s Cheng Zilong claimed gold with a remarkable 511.10 points. Fellow Chinese diver Zhu Zifeng earned silver, and Ukraine’s Oleksiy Sereda finished with bronze.
The women’s 10-meter synchronized platform title also went to China, as Lu Wei and Zhang Minjie dominated the event with 327.36 points. The Mexican duo of Gabriela Agundez and Alejandra Estudillo took silver, and Britain’s Lois Toulson and Maisie Bond captured bronze.
Overall, Chinese divers showcased outstanding prowess in Windsor, securing eight golds, three silvers, and one bronze. The next stop for the World Aquatics Diving World Cup, serving as this season’s Super Final, is scheduled for May 2-4 in Beijing.
