A vibrant China-Cambodia cultural exchange event unfolded in Phnom Penh on Thursday, coinciding with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Cambodia. The event was a collaborative effort between China Media Group (CMG) and several Cambodian ministries, including the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and Ministry of Tourism, alongside the Royal Academy of Cambodia.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Senate President, sent a heartfelt congratulatory letter. He expressed that the enduring friendship between Cambodia and China has withstood the test of time, highlighting China as Cambodia’s most trusted friend. Hun Sen emphasized the importance of cultural and people-to-people exchanges as a vital bond connecting the two nations.
“I am delighted to see the fruitful media cooperation between Cambodia and China, exemplified by the China-Cambodia Friendship Radio,” Hun Sen stated. He believes that the event will serve as a bridge to deepen understanding and enhance mutual trust, promoting steady and long-term development of bilateral relations.
During the event, CMG forged practical cooperation agreements with multiple Cambodian government agencies and media outlets. They also launched the China-Cambodia media partnership mechanism and the 10th “Open-air Cinema” film tour program, among other activities.
Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of CMG, spoke at the event. He highlighted CMG’s commitment to promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between China and Cambodia.
“China-Cambodia Friendship Radio, jointly organized by CMG and National Radio of Cambodia, has been operating for over a decade, becoming a landmark in media cooperation between our countries,” Shen noted. He added that several of CMG’s high-quality TV programs have aired on Cambodia’s mainstream media channels, receiving positive responses and wide acclaim.
With President Xi Jinping’s visit as a backdrop, Shen expressed CMG’s readiness to embark on a new round of people-to-people exchanges and cooperation with all sectors of Cambodian society. He called for reshaping the international discourse system, building consensus on peaceful development, and amplifying the voice of the Global South in international public opinion.
