The United States may step back from its role in mediating a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia if clear progress isn’t seen soon, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio said on Friday.
“We’re not going to continue with this endeavor for weeks and months on end,” Rubio told reporters in Paris after meetings with European and Ukrainian leaders. “We need to determine very quickly now, and I’m talking about a matter of days, whether or not this is doable in the next few weeks. If it is, we’re in. If it’s not, then we have other priorities to focus on as well.”
Rubio emphasized that the U.S. remains interested in facilitating peace but indicated that patience is wearing thin. “President Trump is still interested in a deal but is willing to move on if there are no immediate signs of progress,” he said.
The senator’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe, where efforts to broker a ceasefire have faced numerous setbacks. The international community watches closely as the prospect of a lasting peace remains uncertain.
