Paris, France — In a significant move towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine, officials from the United States, Ukraine, and Europe met in Paris on Thursday for trilateral talks. This marks the first time representatives from all three parties have convened since U.S. President Donald Trump assumed office in January.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot hailed the meeting as essential, emphasizing the shared objective of advancing peace in Ukraine. “A lasting peace can only be achieved with the consent and contribution of the Europeans,” Barrot told News Channel LCI.
European leaders have previously expressed concerns over the U.S. administration’s approach to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, feeling that Kyiv and its European allies were often left on the sidelines. They stress that European participation is crucial for any durable peace agreement in the region.
The Paris talks signify a renewed commitment to collaborative efforts in bringing about peace. A second round of discussions is scheduled to take place in London next week, indicating ongoing momentum in the peace process.
