Activists Protest Trump Admins Attack on Civil Rights History Video Poster

Activists March Against Changes to Black History Education

WASHINGTON D.C.— Hundreds of civil rights activists gathered in the nation’s capital on Saturday to protest against efforts to alter the teaching of Black history in schools across the United States.

The demonstrators marched to express their opposition to policies that they say undermine the comprehensive teaching of African American history and culture. These policies, some initiated during former President Donald Trump’s administration, include attempts to eliminate diversity programs and alter presentations of African American artifacts in museums.

“We are here to ensure that the true history of Black Americans is taught and preserved,” said Jasmine Carter, one of the organizers of the march. “Erasing or sanitizing our history is a disservice to all students and to the nation as a whole.”

The protest follows recent actions to restrict curriculum content related to race and diversity in schools, as well as changes to exhibits at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Activists argue that these moves contribute to a broader effort to marginalize Black voices and experiences.

“Education is a powerful tool,” said Malik Thompson, a high school teacher from Atlanta who joined the march. “When we limit what’s taught in classrooms, we limit the potential for understanding and progress.”

Protesters called for the reinstatement of diversity programs and for educational institutions to commit to an inclusive and accurate portrayal of history. They emphasized the importance of acknowledging historical injustices to foster a more equitable society.

The march reflects ongoing national debates about how history is taught in schools, particularly regarding topics like slavery, civil rights, and systemic racism. Activists pledged to continue advocating until their concerns are heard and addressed by policymakers.
